Go Fish! by Lissa Coffey |

Fish, when properly prepared, can provide numerous health benefits, especially for the heart. The American Heart Association recommends eating two to three meals with fish each week. Fish offers high-quality protein with fewer calories than similar-sized portions of meat. According to the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources, both catfish and ground beef are made up of about 18% protein. But, for an 8-ounce serving, the catfish will have only about 232 calories, which the regular ground beef will have about 640 calories.
Fish are also low in sodium and are good sources of potassium, vitamins, and minerals. Fish are generally low in cholesterol and saturated fats, which has been associated with high blood pressure and heart disease. Some fish, like salmon, and fish oils, are a great source of omega-3 fatty acids. Studies have indicated that omega-3s have favorable effects on our health.
